Have You Thought About it Lately?
“Make me a blessing to someone today” (Ira B. Wilson).
These familiar words from the hymn by the same name prompt us to wonder, “How can I be a blessing to someone today?” Normally, at this time, we greet others with the words, “Happy New Year!” But have you ever thought about what you can do to fulfill those words (and the prayer, “Make me a blessing to someone today”) in the lives of those you meet? Genesis 39 gives us an interesting insight into the life and influence of Joseph. It says, “From the time that he [Potiphar, Joseph’s master] made Joseph overseer of his house and all that he had, that the LORD blessed [Potiphar] the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he [Potiphar] had in the house and in the field.” If you study Joseph’s life, you’ll find that one of his secrets for being an instrument of God’s blessing was that he repeatedly honored God when placed in trying and challenging situations (see Genesis 39:6 – 15; 40:1 – 8; 41:1 – 36). Let’s honor God so that He can use us as He used Joseph. Think about it!
